Cartoons and a Western for Riverfest

The Park Theatre’s Annual Matinee and Open House

Cartoons and WesternThe Park Theatre opens its doors to the public for its Annual Open House during the Riverfest
Celebrations in Jaffrey on Saturday, July 31 from 10 to 2 pm. The Cartoon Matinee this year will
feature the area’s first showing of Pixar’s brand new short, “Night and Day”. Right now the only
way to see this Pixar cartoon is to go to area Theaters showing “Toy Story 3”. This Saturday,
however, cartoon lovers will be able to see it for free at the Jaffrey Woman’s Club right on Main
Street, compliments of The Park Theatre and movie sponsors Angus, Pippa and Cricket. The first
Matinee feature is all Cartoons, including Pixar’s “Night and Day”, with Steven Thurber at 12:30
pm. The second feature is a Hopalong Cassidy western, made possible by Harold and Peter Davis
and their families, and shown at 1:30 pm. All films are shown at the Jaffrey Woman’s Club. As
always popcorn and drinks are available. The public is invited and admission is free.

Theatre tours will be given that will include the old Theatre floor and stage. Guests will
come to know what plans are being made for resurrecting the Theatre, and see what’s been
happening inside and on the grounds. The tour may also include a look at the original owner’s
house which sits atop the Theatre on the third floor of the structure.

While touring The Park Theatre, visitors can see the Theatre’s new mural, The Fifth
Mountain, created just for the reopening. This work of art measures eight feet by 12 feet and is
made up of 288 individual panels depicting life in the Monadnock Region. Together the panels
create a new scenic portrait of Mount Monadnock. Each of the panels is by themselves a work of
art and painted by 117 renowned local artists, professionals and students. Everyone is invited to
sponsor a panel in honor of or in memory of loved ones or special events.

The Park Theatre Summer Movie Nights are shown at the Jaffrey Women’s Club on
Thursdays at 7 pm. Admission is free. Popcorn, candy and drinks are available. Coming up are
“The Thin Man” – August 5, “Roseanna McCoy” – August 12, and “Airplane” – August 19. The
Theatre’s fall series, Saturdays at the Cinema, begins on September 18th.

The Park Theatre’s 2010 Season is the result of the Theatre’s collaboration with the Jaffrey
Women’s Club and numerous performing artists throughout the region that intend to mount their
productions in the reopened Park Theater. Actors’ Circle Theatre presents “The Merry Wives of
Windsor” on August 7-8th and 14-15th at Depot Square Park in Peterborough. Admission is free and
the shows start at 5 pm. Monadnock Music presents a free Summer Concert at the Cathedral of the
Pines in Rindge on August 27 at 7:30 pm.
